Letter 4 - 2 August 2000

Hi Chris

Manic smiley faces hu? Horace says meeeeow! What is it that's growing in your back yard other than rubbish? That's a good one. I got your letter last night and here I am right back at cha. I don't know how you do but you seem to have ESP or something (Backyard Shrubbery). Yes I was out of stamps but I'm ok for now. It makes you feel special knowing that someone cares, so I'm very grateful for the concern and the love that you've shown towards me, thanks Mom.

Now I'm going to describe my financial Empire and if you just blinked, you've missed it. There's a lady who lives in New Zealand and she sent me some money a while back and I wrote to a church in my home town and called them all a bunch of fakes and somebody sent $10.00, no I never knew who it was. I don't get anything from my family and I stopped asking a long time ago. How I mail my letters! There is an indigent mail service for us broke inmates, we are allowed to send out 5 letters per week, and when we do get money, they'll get theirs before I even know its there in the account. I said 5 letters, but its actually 5 stamps, so it takes 2 whenever I write you and when I write the attorney or anyone else that usually does it in one wop! [....]

We try not to use the indigent service too much because they are a rip off, and they'll cheat you out of your money. If you'll notice, on the envelopes there will be 2 x 33 c stamps, but it only cost 40 cents to send a letter to you, so they are stealing 26 cents from us. The Commissary is worse because on the Commissary list these are 4 cents and 1 cent stamps but they never have any for us to put the correct postage on outgoing overseas mail. When reading the Wing of Friendship you'll notice that in almost every state, all the updates include something on stationery or stamps and that's over because if you look at the price for legal pad and you'll see 90 cents yet there are only 50 sheets, that's robbery! It's the same with a lot of stuff around here. Sorry I got carried away, anyway, when I have gone and ordered from the Commissary, I'll get writing materials, toothpaste, soap, deoderant, you know, things of that nature, so you see Mom, I've been hanging on. Remember when I said I didn't even have a radio? Well I don't ,but it hasn't had the kind of effect on me that it would have on some of the people around her, and thats because I care more about doing everything in my power to get the hell out of here, so I just try to stay busy
